Entered Madras Army, 1861. Transferred to the 106th Light Infantry 1863. Appointed Adjut. 1874.
Promoted Major, 1881. Lieutenant-Colonel, 1881. Colonel, 1885; served with the Frontier Field Force in the Soudan, 1885 and 1886, despatches.
Retired on pension, 26 October 1889. Decorated for service at the action of Giniss, 30 December 1885, in command of 2nd Battalion Durham Light Infantry. Companion of the Distinguished Service Order, 1886.
