LAMB, Edmund was born in 1863. 2nd surviving son of late Richard Westbrook Lamb, Justice of the Peace and D.L. of West Denton, Northumberland, and Georgiana, daughter of Stephen Eaton of Ketton Hall, Company Rutland, and grandson of Joseph Lamb, Justice of the Peace and D.L. ofTemon, Company Cumberland.

Studied at Oratory School, Edgbaston, Birmingham. Merton College Oxford (honours degree). University College London.
In the intervals between business and study travelled widely in Asia Minor, India, North and Central Africa. A colliery proprietor in Northumberland, and a landowner in Northumberland and Sussex. Speaks many languages.
