Edo-Dayo Tojuro was a reciter of joruri ballad drama. Among the disciples of Kato, the founder of the Kato-bushi style of recitation, Toju and Kajo were the most distinguished. After Kato died, Toju and the son of Kato contested for inheritance of the title of the head of Kato-bushi. Kato II won out and Toju founded his own school of recitation.
