Stiles, Edward H. was born on October 8, 1836 in at Granby, Connecticut, United States. Son of Eliakim and Mary (Holcomb) Stiles.

Educated in schools of Connecticut.

Career

Removed from Connecticut to Ottumwa, Iowa, where began practice of law, 1857. City counselor, 1859. Company counselor, 1861.

Member Iowa House of Representatives, 1863, Senate, 1865. Reporter decisions Supreme Court of the Iowa, 1867-1875, during which time edited, prepared head-notes for, and published Vols. 22 to 37, Iowa Reports, also a 2-volunteer Digest of Decisions of Supreme Court of Iowa, to which added subsequent vols.

Republican candidate for Congress, 6th Iowa District (a Democratic stronghold), 1883, and came within 100 votes of election. Attorney C.,B. & Q. and C., Rhode Island & P. rys. 23 years, Ottumwa district Removed to Kansas City, Missoury, 1886, and since then in practice there.

Republican candidate for circuit judge, 1892. Since November, 1892, master in chancery, United States Circuit Court.
