Funston, Edward Hogue was born on September 16, 1836 in Bethel Township, Ohio, United States. Son of Frederick and Julia (Stafford) Funston.

Education

Educational public schools, New Carlisle Academy and Marietta College.

Career

Father of Frederick F. Entered army as Lieutenant 16th Ohio Battery. Took part in principal engagements along the Mississippi. Mustered out 1865; removed, 1867, to prairie farm in township of Carlyle, Kansas.

Member Kansas House of Representatives, 1873, 1874, 1875 (speaker 1875), Senate, 1880-1884 (president pro tem). Telected to 48th Congress, March 1, 1884, for unexpired term (1884-1885) of D. C. Haskell, deceased. Reëlected 49th to 52d Congresses (1885-1893).

Reëlected to 53d Congress but unseated after a contest, August 2, 1894.
