Renwick, Edward Sabine was born on January 3, 1823 in New York, United States. Son of James and Margaret Anne (Brevoort) Renwick.

Education

Bachelor of Arts, Columbia, 1839, A.M., 1842.

Career

Became civil and mechanic engineer and superintendent large iron works at Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Since 1849, in practice as expert in patent cases. In 1862, with his brother, Henry B. Renwick, repaired the Great Eastern while afloat, replating a fracture in the bilge, 82 feet long and 10 feet in greatest width, which other experts had declared an impossible feat.

Invented many machines and mechanic devices.
