Brady was born at Carcoar, New South Wales, on August 7, 1869.
He was was educated at the University of Sydney and in Washington, D. C.
He then entered journalism, becoming the editor of the Australian Workman in 1892. In 1901 he became owner of the short-lived newspaper Grip, and in 1904 editor of the Australian Worker. His best-known book of poems, The King's Caravan (1912), brought him widespread recognition as a vigorous singer of Australian themes. Among his other books are The Way of Many Rivers (1890), The Earthen Floor (1902), River Rovers (1911), Bells and Hobbles (1912), Australia Unlimited (1918), The House of the Winds (1919), The Land of the Sun (1924), Wardens of the Seas (1933), and Two Frontiers (1944). He died near Melbourne, July 22, 1952.
