Edwin Kennebeck graduated from the Marquette University College of Journalism. He also received a master's degree in English from Marquette.
Mr. Kennebeck began his twenty-eight-year career as an editor for Viking Press in 1955. While at Viking, Edwin Kennebeck served as editor for works by John Steinbeck, Arthur Miller, and Jack Kerouac. In 1973, he penned his only work, Juror Number Four: The Trial of Thirteen Black Panthers as Seen from the Jury Box, based on his experience as a juror in the trial involving several members of the Black Panther movement. Mr. Kennebeck also contributed articles to journals, including Semicolon, Village Voice, The Nation.
Edwin Kennebeck died on May 2 at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx. He was 72 and lived in Manhattan. The cause was cancer of the esophagus, said a friend, Jim Tamulis.
