Eiji Osawa is a Japanese chemist, educator and scientist. He is a President of NanoCarbon Research Institute Limited.

Background

Osawa was born on June 9, 1935 in Toyama, Hokuriku, Japan; the son of Shoichi and Akiko (Kato) Osawa.

Education

Osawa received his Bachelor of Engineering degree from Kyoto University in 1958. Two years later, he was given a Master of Engineering degree and Doctor of Engineering degree in 1965 from the same university.

Career

Osawa became an assistant professor at Hokkaido University in 1970. Twenty years later, he was appointed a full professor at Toyahashi University of Technology, where he worked until his retirement in 2001. Then Eiji started the research and development company NanoCarbon Research Institute Limited. Nowadays he serves as a president of this company.

Achievements

  • Osawa predicted the existence of C60 molecule.

Membership

Osawa is a member of Chemical Society in Japan, American Chemical Society, Fullerene Research Associates. He was a president of Japan Chemistry Program Exchange from 1989 to 1992.

On November 22, 1961 Eiji Osawa married Sachiko Okumura. They have 3 children.
