Eisuke was born in 1841 in Chiba Prefecture, Japan. He was the eldest son of Yamasaburo.

He began life as an apprentice at a tabi (Japanese socks) store at Yokohama (1852) and by the year 1874 had his own shop; then moving to Nihonbashi, Tokyo, he set up another store under the name "Man-ei" (1877). His business flourished and he formed it into a joint stock company under the yiame Kawasaki Trading Co. When the Fuji Gas Spinning Co. was in financial difficulties he helped it back on its feet. Was also director of several other trading companies.
