Monk at the Valaam monastery on the Ladoga lake. Father confessor of Grand Duke Nikolai Nikolaevich, Commander in Chief of the Russian Army, who continued the Romanov family tradition of pilgrimage to this monastery.
After the Civil War, Valaam was on Finnish territory, but during the Soviet-Finnish war the monks were evacuated before the advance of the Red Army, 1940. Settled at New Valaam (Valamo). Revered as a representative of the starets tradition.
