As a child, Elaine Marie attended Lafayette Elementary School in San Francisco. Then her family moved to New York City, where she studied at William H. Carr Junior High School. After that, her family moved to Houston and she went to Westchester High School. She studied at Rice University in Texas, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1977.
In 2000, Elaine received an honorary Master of Fine Arts degree from Indianapolis Christian University.
Elaine Marie Alphin began her career as a feature editor and writer for Houston City magazine in Houston in 1978-79. From 1978 she was a freelance writer. From 1982 to 1993 she was an advertising manager and technical service provider at A-Square Company.
In 1986, Elaine owned Hieroglyphics Unlimited, where she was a cross-stitch designer. She also was an instructor at the Institute of Children's Literature in 1992. During her professional life, Elaine Marie Alphin was a speaker at conferences, workshops, and schools.
Alphin made her publishing debut in 1991 with the middle-grade, Ghost Cadet, the story of a boy named Benjy who helps the ghost of a cadet who died in the Civil War find a missing watch. Alphin also wrote for young adults, including Picture Perfect in 2002 and The Perfect Shot in 2006. In 2010, her last book, An Unspeakable Crime: The Prosecution and Persecution of Leo Frank was written.
Elaine Marie Alphin is particularly known as the author of a great number of books for children and young adults.
During her career, Alphin received numerous awards, among them are several Magazine Merit Awards, Young Readers Award, International Washington Irving Literary Award, Edgar Award, Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Gold Award, VOYA Top Shelf Fiction Award, and Young Hoosier Book Award.
She was a Thomas J. Watson research fellow in England and Italy from 1977 to 1978.

Lieutenant Colonel Arthur Brent Alphin was born on the 5th of September in 1948. He is a retired United States Army corporate officer and military historian.
Lieutenant Colonel Alphin entered the United States Military Academy (USMA) at West Point in 1966. He graduated from USMA in 1970 with a commission as 2nd Lieutenant of Armor and a Bachelor of Science degree in Weapons Systems Engineering.
Throughout his military career, Alphin maintained his interest in sporting firearms and hunting. While a cadet at West Point, he shot on the Pistol Team, earning both his letter and All-American honors. Within one year after graduation, his prowess on the pistol range earned him a Life Master rating in the pistol. In the intervening years, he has also shot in many other competitive disciplines wherein he has invariably earned the highest ratings.
As the author, Alphin produced, The warrior heritage: a study of Rhodesia in 1980. With his wife, Elaine Marie Alphin he wrote, I have not yet begun to fight and Dwight D. Eisenhower in 2004.
