At the age of nineteen entered Massachusetts Institute of Technology to study in preparation for an architectural career.
In 1886, following a year of further study and travel in Europe, the young man began his career in Boston as draftsman for Hartwell & Richarson, subsequently in 1889 opened his own office, and for nearly a decade continued practice in the city. At "Boston Tech” the Henry L. Pierce Building was built in 1898 from Mr. Homer’s plans, also he designed a number of schools, and intermittently served as Architectural Instructor and Lecturer at his Alma Mater. Moving to Providence in 1907 he practiced six years in association with the firm of Clarke & Howe, afterward worked alone. In the latter period he designed the Lincoln and Veazie Street Schools, c. 1918.
