Caspi received a Master of Arts degree from the University of Warsaw in 1939. Sixteen years later he was given a Doctor of Philosophy degree from Clark University.
Caspi began his career as a staff scientist at Standard Institute of Israel in 1943. Eight years later he took a position of a scientist at Worcester Foundation for Experimental Biology. Then in 1957, Eliahu became a staff scientist and a senior scientist at the same foundation.
Also he served as a principal scientist at Worcester Foundation for Experimental Biology from 1971 to 1991. Since 1992 Caspi has been a principal scientist emeritus at that foundation. In addition, he was a visiting professor at Tel Aviv University, Ben Gurion University and Louis Pasteur University.
Caspi is a member of American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Chemical Society, Chemical Society, American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Phytochemical Society of North America and Worcester Committee on Foreign Relations.
On May 8, 1948 Eliahu Caspi married Sara Kelrich. The marriage produced a child.
