Elizabeth Crichton was born on May 16, 1946, in Melbourne, Victoria. She is the daughter of Ailsa Crichton.
Elizabeth Crichton graduated from the Australian National University, where she got a Bachelor of Science. She also studied at the University of Queensland. She got there a Doctor of Philosophy.
Since 1997 Elizabeth Crichton works at the Omaha Zoological Society in Henry Doorly Zoo as a research scientist at the Center for Conservation and Research. Also, she serves as an educator at universities such as the University of Arizona, University of Hawaii, Pennsylvania State University, and the University of Adelaide.
In addition to teaching, Elizabeth is an editor of scientific journals and national magazines, including Australian Science. Besides, she is a writer. She is currently the author of Biology of Reproduction in Bats.
Elizabeth Crichton's lifetime fascination with the reproduction processes in bats reflected in her many publications which describe the chronology of cycles in many North American and Australian species. She also explores the physiology of selected unique adaptations such as delayed implantation, delayed development, and sperm storage. Elizabeth's interest in bats and their unique and variable reproductive biology led to twenty-five years of research on many different species of bats in Australia and North America. Her primary motivation for writing a book, Biology of Reproduction in Bats, is to share information.
Elizabeth Crichton, with her co-editor and postdoctoral mentor, Philip Henry Krutzsch, decided to write this book in honor of William Wimsatt, a scholar in this field, whose dream it was to write such a volume before his death. William Wimsatt was a close friend and collaborator of Philip Henry Krutzsch. They conceived this book to fulfill William Wimsatt's vision and produced the first such text one, that would summarize all the available literature at that time and be of value to students in the field of reproductive biology.
