Promoted co-operative village for miners at Bolsover, 1893. Established Start in Life Funds at London Polytechnic, 1904, and for Salvation Army, 1905, and Out-of-Work Shelter for the West London Mission, 1906. Member of Parliament (Liberal) Lincolnshire, West Lindsay or Gainsborough Div., 1895-1900.
