Emi Suiin was born in Okayama Prefecture in 1896.
In 1881, he came up to Tokyo intending to be a soldier. Entered Shokojuku, a private school operated by Jugo Sugiura, a noted educationist, in 1885. Sazanami Iwaya, famous writer of fairy tales, and Keigetsu Omachi, essayist of note, were among his class-mates.In 1900, he joined the staff of the Hakubunkan Publishing Co. and became an editor of the Niroku Shimpo newspaper in 1904 when the Russo-Japanese War broke out. He wrote many short war stories for the newspaper. He became a popular writer of detective stories, stories of adventures, sports and war. He was the last novelist of the Genyusha group, which was headed by Koyo Ozaki. Died while on a lecture tour in Matsuyama City.
