LAVELAYE, Emile Louis Victor de was born in 1822 in Bruges, Belgium.
Belgian academie socialist whose prolific writings made many contributions to the journals, in addition to his books. His topics included money, international law, agricultural economics and many others, economic and non-economic. He saw political economy as an art not a science, accepted the role of the State in economic life, and judged economic questions in terms of moral standards.
