Lorenzini began his career as a staff member at the University of Bologna in 1966. Fourteen years later he was appointed a professor of nuclear engineering at the same university. Then in 1989, Enrico became a dean of the Engineering Faculty at the University of Bologna and had held the position for six years. In 1994 he was appointed a professor at the Department of Energy and Environmental Engineering of the University of Bologna.
In addition, Lorenzini served as a component and then vice-president of the CNR's (National Research Council) Italian National Committee for Engineering and Architecture from 1977 to 1994. In the 1987's, for three years, he was an Italian representative within the CG5 "Energy General Committee" of the European Parliament.
Nowadays Enrico is a professor emeritus at the University of Bologna. Also he is an administrative first counsellor of the University of Bologna and editor in chief of the "International Journal of Heat & Technology".
On February 4, 1967 Enrico Lorenzini married Vera Tabarroni.
