Completed his first and secondary education. 1963 Admitted to Istanbul University, School of Law, but did not complete the degree. In 1964 he won the entrance exam of the Painting Department in Istanbul State Academy of Applied Arts. Became first Karl Schlaminger’s, then Helmut Hungerberg’s student. In 1968, Inan completed his painting education graduating from Istanbul State Academy of Applied Arts.
Ergin was granted the DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst)-German Academic Exchange Service scholarship and performed drawing and original printmaking studies at the Fine Arts Academy in Munich alongside Rudi Tröger and Max Zimmermann.
In 1968, Ergin won the assistant exam of the Painting Department and became Helmut Hungerberg’s assistant. In 1975 he was appointed as a lecturer at the Istanbul State Academy of Applied Arts with his thesis on “Original Printmaking and Its Techniques”. The same year, he served as a reserve officer in Etimesgut, Ankara. Ergin made researches in Fine Art Academies and museums in Munich and Berlin on DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst)-German Academic Exchange Service scholarship. In 1982 he was appointed as lecturer at Marmara University, Faculty of Fine Arts (previously known and established as Istanbul State Faculty of Applied Arts). During 1983-87, he continued his researches and studies in Berlin. He was invited to the Painting Department in Berlin Hoschschule der Künste (Berlin Academy of Fine Arts) as guest professor, and gave design lessons. For a year he lived in Leverkusen where he held a solo exhibition.
In 1992, Ergin İnan was invited to Ingelheim am Rhein to hold an exhibition on “Internationale Tage Ingelheim/Germany-Turkey” projects. In 1998 he retired from Marmara University, Faculty of Fine Arts. The same year, he started working as teaching assistant at Yeditepe University, Faculty of Fine Arts. Between 2002-2006, while living and carrying on his artwork in Berlin, İnan helped with the establishment of Galeri Artist Berlin.
