Eady received a Bachelor of Science in mathematics and in 1937 he become a weather forecaster in the United Kingdom Meteorological Office.

In 1946 he started a Doctor of Philosophy in mathematics at the Imperial College. His 1948 thesis was The theory of development in dynamical meteorology which was an early work on atmospheric instability and the development of weather systems
