Prof. Essam Khamis Al Hanash was appointed the position of the Vice Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research in December 2015 until June 2018. Also, the Supervisor of the Project Development Unit of the Ministry of Higher Education & Scientific Research. In addition, to being a member and the Chairman of the Board of Directors, at Binational Fulbright Commission in Egypt (BFCE) during the period (2011 – 2018). From 2011- 2015, served as the Director of the City of Scientific Research and Technological Applications in Alexandria. Earlier, Dr. Al Hanash held several positions with Alexandria University, including Acting President of the University, and Vice President of Graduate Studies and Research Affairs, and Vice Dean of Faculty of Science for Graduate Studies & Research. Currently, Dr. Al Hanash is Advisor to the President of Alexandria University for International Ranking and Scientific Research and Emeritus professor of Electrochemistry and "Corrosion & Protection of Metals".
Prior to last government position, and for almost 40 years, Dr. Al Hanash was a research scientist who directed a wide variety of research projects focused on Corrosion Chemistry. Dr. Al Hanash supervised more than 35 M.Sc. & Ph.D. students. Dr. Al Hanash awarded 20 scientific partnership research projects funded both nationally and internationally. Dr. Al Hanash was granted two patents and published more than 115 publications in refereed journals and international conferences and 2 Chapters in books with total citations 2697, H-index 25 (Google Scholar).
Dr. Al Hanash is a member of different National and International Scientific Societies and a lecturer for a number of Industrial post-experience-training courses and founder Editor-in-chief for the International Journal of Applied Chemistry since 2004. He is a Member of the UNESCO Open Science Advisory Committee representing UNESCO electoral Group Arab States, and intergovernmental committee, 2020.
In recognition of Dr. Al Hanash achievements on both the international and local level, Dr. Al Hanash received more than 14 awards and Plaques. Among the international and regional awarded awards are M. Abd El-Hamid Showman Award for Arab Scientists and Plaque (1995) for the most distinguished research less than 40 years in the field of Chemistry in the Arab Countries from Jordan; and Melvin Rommanoff Plaque Award (1995) from NACE and Material Performance Journals, USA in 1991. Among the national awards awarded to him is Professor Ibrahim Ammar (1995) award for his research in corrosion and protection of metals in Egypt, and Professor M. Abd El-Salaam Award (1990) for the most distinguished research conducted by Scientist less than 35 years in the field of Chemistry in Egypt; both are presented from Academy of Scientific Research & Technology, Egypt.

Dr. Al Hanash was nominated for outstanding achievement in Marquis Who’s Who in Science and Engineering (sixth edition); Who’s Who in the World (16th edition); and others.
Dr. Al Hanash received a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry (Distinction with honor, top of the class), and a Master’s degree in in Corrosion Chemistry from Alexandria University. Dr. Al Hanash holds a Ph.D. in Corrosion Chemistry from Alexandria University and UMIST, Manchester University, UK, 1985 (channel system). Dr. Al Hanash did postdoctoral studies at Material Science & Engineering Department, MIT, USA (1988 - 1989) and continued my postdoctoral studies as Research Staff at Corrosion & Protection Center, UMIST, Manchester, UK (1990 - 1992). Dr. Al Hanash also served as a Professor of Chemistry, King Saud University, Saudi Arabia (1993-2001). He represented the official scientific and educational missions of Egypt in many countries such as USA, China, Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, UK, Russia, Germany, France, Italy, Austria, Spain, Netherlands, Malta, South Africa, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Mali, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Morocco, Tunisia, and United Arab Emirates.
