Estanislao Yusay y Yulo was born on May 7, 1856 in Iloilo, Philippines. He was the oldest and the only child of Clemente Yusay and Vicenta Yulo, who reached maturity.
After receiving primary schooling in his home town, Estanislao Yusay y Yulo was sent to Manila and studied at the Colegio de San Juan de Letran where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree. Pursuing the study of law at the University of Santo Tomas, he graduated with a Licentiate of Jurisprudence degree in March 1880.
Upon graduation, the young lawyer Estanislao Yusay y Yulo began to practice law in the islands of Panay and Negros, having most of his cases in Iloilo. Then he was appointed justice of the peace of Molo.
During the second stage of the Revolution, in October 1898, he was designated by General Diego de los Rios as a member of the council for reforms, a body having similar aims as the one created by General Augustin in Manila, as a last conciliatory measure on the part of the Spanish authorities to win Filipino sympathy and loyalty. This body did not have much time to function, however, as town after town fell into the hands of the revolutionists for whom he had his sympathies. As a result, he became a representative to the Cantonal Congress which was called to organize a system of local government after Spanish authority was overthrown. On November 6, 1899, he was designated president of the Superior Court established in Negros. He also served in the Legislative Congress, where he became vice-president of that body.
After American sovereignty was established, Yusay accepted, in June 1901, an appointment as a judge of the tenth judicial district. In March 1904 he was transferred to the fifth judicial district, where he later became friends with Epifanio de los Santos Cristobal who was appointed fiscal of Bulakan. Later he was transferred to Manila where he served the judiciary until his death. In 1907, in a company with Victorino Mapa, he traveled abroad, visiting the principal countries and cities of Europe.
Estanislao Yusay y Yulo was married to Petra Lacson. The marriage produced thirteen children.
