Career
Sparks ran for a seat to the Alberta Legislature in the 1921 Alberta general election. He ran as a United Farmers candidate in a two way race against Liberal incumbent Hugh John Montgomery in the Wetaskiwin provincial electoral district. Sparks ran for a second term in the 1926 Alberta general election.
He faced a three way race, but his primary opponent was Montgomery.
The race was hotly contested with Sparks winning it in the second count. Sparks ran for a third term in office in the 1930 Alberta general election.
