In the early 1950s, was the USSR’s best cycle racer. Honoured Master of Sports (skating), 1952. European champion, 1956.
Olympic champion, 1960. USSR champion, 1956-1965. World record holder, 1955-1968 (500, 1,000 and 1,500 metres race).
Silver medal, 1964.
