Evgeny graduated from Moscow vocational school No. 7, and for more than 5 years he worked as a turner at the Dynamo Factory.
In 1967, Evgeny Petrov successfully graduated from Moscow Polygraphic Institute and became a mechanical engineer. During his studies at the University, three times he became the champion of the USSR, repeatedly - the prize-winner of different international competitions.
In 1957, Evgeny Alexandrovich first came to the shooting range "Lokomotiv", which was near the city of Balashikha. Then for 3 years he served in Taman division. In 1962, for the first time, Evgeny Petrov became the champion of the Soviet Union, and was included in the national team.
In 1968 Evgeny won at the Olympic Games in Mexico, defeating such eminent athletes as Conrad Virnhir (the FRG) and Romano Garagnani (Italy). And that was also when he set a new Olympic record.
In 1970, he won the World Championship in the United States, showing the result of 200 out of 200.
In 1972, at the shooting range "Lokomotiv" Evgeny Alexandrovich first won for the fifth time the title of the USSR champion, and then took part in the exercise "Until the first miss." He won in this discipline with the result of 231 hit targets, which was a new record of the USSR.
In 1972 at the Olympic Games in Munich Evgeny Alexandrovich again fought for the first place with two shooters from Germany. After the Munich Olympics, Petrov stopped participating actively in competitions.
Then for more than 20 years he worked as the head coach of the USSR trap shooting national team, being at the same time deputy head of the Department of Applied Sports of the State Sport Committee of the USSR. In 1993 he left the Sports Committee. For several years he worked in Germany as director of the International Shooting Academy.
Now Petrov heads the production of sporting and hunting cartridges in Moscow, and from time to time he gives lectures at the International Academy of Shooting Sports. He is also the president of the Sport and Hunting Union, which is developing in Russia a new type of shooting, called sporting.
