CHÁVEZ, Ezequiel was born on September 19, 1868 in Aguascalientes. Son of Dr. Ignacio Chávez and Guadalupe Lavista de Chávez.

Education

Career

Professor of psychology, logic, ethics, sociology, philosophy of law and of education, historical geography, literature, philosophy, etc., in the National Preparatory School and in the University of Mexico (Faculties of Jurisprudence, Higher Studies, and Philosophy and Letters)j 1891-1933. Formerly professor of Mexican history in the Superior School of Administration. Of sociology in the Free School of Law.

Of psychology and general methodology in the Primary Normal School for Women. At one time professor in the summer school of the University of Mexico. Professor in the University of California, summer sessions of 1906 and 1909.

Professor of French and Spanish in the University of Cincinnati, 1917 and 1918. Of adolescent psychology in the University of Madrid, 1927. Of Latin American geography and history in the University of California at Los Angeles, 1932.

At present (1934) professor of adolescent psychology and philosophy of education in the Superior Normal School of the University of Mexico, and of educational biology in the Fray Bernardino de Sahagún Free Secondary School. Official of the Secretariat of Justice and Public Instruction (charged with the reorganization of the national schools of Mexico), 1895-1905. Director of the Revista de la Instrucción Pública Mexicana, 1896-1901, and of the Boletín de Instrucción Pública, 1901-1911.

SubSecretary of Public Instruction, 1905— 1911. Federal deputy, 1911-1912 (responsible for the passage of legislation establishing the Civil Service and pensions for retired teachers). Founded the Faculty of Higher Studies of the University of Mexico, 1910.

Co-founder (with representatives from Columbia and Harvard Universities) of the International School of American Archaeology and Ethnology, 1910. President of the Board of Directors of the same, 1910— 1914. Director of the Faculty of Higher Studies, 1913, 1921-1923.

Rector of the University of Mexico, 1913-1914, 19231924. Chief of the Department of Commercial and Industrial Education in the Secretariat of Industry, Commerce, and Labor, 1919-1922. Director of the National Preparatory School, 1920-1921.

Honorary member of the Technical Consultative Commission of the Secretariat of Public Education since 1930. Conresses and Conferences: Congress of ’rimary School Teachers of La Piedad, State of Michoacán (administration of Ing. Pascual Ortiz Rubio).

Congresses of Teachers of Mexico City, 1920 (organizer and president) and 1930 (president). National Convention of Directors of Education (organized by the Secretariat of Public Education), 1931. Also member of the Eighth and Ninth International Congresses of Psychology and of several Congresses of Americanists.
