Background

Dayrit was born on December 4, 1953 in Manila, Philippines; the son of Conrado S. Dayrit and Milagros M. Dayrit.

Education

Dayrit received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Ateneo de Manila University in 1975. Three years later he earned his Master of Arts degree and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Chemistry in 1981 from Princeton University.

Career

Dayrit began his career as a post-doctoral research associate at Oxford University in 1980. Two years later he took a position of an assistant professor of chemistry at Ateneo de Manila University. Then in 1987, Fabian became an associate professor at the same university. Since 1993 he has been a professor of chemistry of the Department of Chemistry at Ateneo de Manila University. Dayrit is also the current director of the National Chemistry Instrumentation Center.

Achievements

• Dayrit is known for his phytochemical work for the development of lagundi as part of the National Integrated Research Program on Medicinal Plants.

Membership

Dayrit is a member of the National Research Council of Philippines, American Chemical Society, New York Academy of Sciences, Philippine Federation of Chemistry Societies, Integrated Chemists of the Philippines. In 2009, he was an academician of the National Academy of Science and Technology Philippines and in May 2016, he became its vice president.
