This practical reference book begins with photographs, accompanied by appropriate commentary from a senior obstetrician, which illustrate the sequence of events during a normal birth. The role of the bedside assistant is delineated, as well as what may be expected to be seen and felt at each stage. The book continues with variations from the normal - breech birth, births requiring episiotomy, birth of twins, caesarian and within each self-contained section the variations from the normal birth can be seen. The book should be of use to student and practising midwives and nurses, doctors in training and also specialist obstetricians.
