Hilda Hutcherson was born on January 21, 1955, in Tuskegee, Alabama, United States. She is the daughter of John and Bernice Hutcherson.
In 1976 Hilda Hutcherson received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Stanford University. In 1980 she obtained a Doctor of Medicine degree from Harvard Medical School.
From 1986 to 1989 Hilda Hutcherson was a medical director at Vanderbilt Clinic Ambulatory Services in New York. From 1986 to 1989 she served as a director of Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York. In 1986 Hutcherson became an assistant professor at Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons, New York, a director, in 1988, an admissions committee member in 1998, and an associate dean in 2002. In 1987 she was appointed an assistant attending at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, and a co-director in 1997 and 2001.
Hutcherson's clinical career has focused on the treatment of fibroid disease, female sexuality, and women's health. She has served on numerous task forces and advisory boards including the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Doris Duke Clinical Research Fellowship, New York City Council, Associated Medical Schools of New York, and the New York State Department of Health. The Governor of New York State twice appointed her to the New York State Stem Cell Board.
She travels to high schools and colleges to speak about sexually transmitted infections and pregnancy prevention. Formerly the Sexual Health columnist for Glamour and Essence Magazines, she presently writes the Women's Health page for Redbook Magazine. She contributes to numerous media outlets including NPR, Oprah, Today Show, and Good Morning America Health. She is the author of three books, Having Your Baby: A Guide for African American Women, What Your Mother Never Told You About Sex, and Pleasure.
Hilda Hutcherson is a nationally renowned expert in the field of women’s health. She is known to audiences for her monthly sexual health columns in Essence and Glamour magazines in which she provides advice and has emerged as a vocal advocate for women’s health empowerment through education. 2002Hilda Hutcherson is a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She is an associate member of the American Fertility Society (now the American Society for Reproductive Medicine). Hutcherson is also a member of the American Medical Association and the National Medical Association.
On September 13, 1986, Hilda Hutcherson married Fredric Fabiano, an anesthesiologist. They have four children: Lauren, Steven, Andrew, and Freddie.
