Francesco Orestano was born on April 14, 1873, in Alia, Palermo, Sicily. He was a son of Luigi and Elisabetta Bellina.
Francesco Orestano studied at the University of Palermo and received a degree in law in 1896. He also attended Leipzig University and received a degree in philosophy in 1901.
Francesco Orestano started his career as a professor at the Sapienza University of Rome in 1903. He left this post in 1907 and became an extraordinary professor at the University of Palermo. In 1911, Orestano was appointed a full professor. He left the University of Palermo in 1924 and devoted himself to writing and philosophy.
Francesco Orestano published his first work Comenio in 1906. Later he wrote such books as Prolegomeni alla scienza del bene e del male, Nuovi princìpi, Esame critico di Marinetti e del Futurismo, and many others. Full collection of his works that includes about 80 publications, was published in the 1960s' by the CEDAM.
