From 1908 to 1944 Francis was an editor of Amateur Photographer. In 1912 he worked as an editor of Photograms of the Year. He held this position for several years. Francis turned to journalism and poster design. He was on the staff of the British Journal of Photography in 1940.
Francis won more than 400 medals and other awards for his photographic work.
