Vero Driffield was educated at Liverpool Collegiate and Sandbach Grammar School. He also attended a private school in Southport where he came into contact with a Swiss master called Dr Knecht. Driffield studied science under a Dr. Knecht in Southport.
Vero Driffield was apprenticed to photographer Henry Sampson in 1865. In 1871 he was employed as an engineer in Widens, for Gaskell, Deacon & Co., which later became United Alkali Co. In 1915 the RPS established the Hurter & Driffield Memorial. In 1888, with Hurter, he published the "Actinograph," a very thorough set of exposure tables.
Vero Charles Driffield died in 1915 and is buried in the churchyard of Farnworth church near his former collaborator Ferdinand Hurter.
