Colayco graduated from Ateneo de Manila University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics in 1965 and a Master of Business and Management degree in 1969.
Colayco held a position of a President and Chief Executive Officer at Universal Pacific Corporation in the Philippines between 1984-1990. In 1985, he was appointed the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer at Asian Meridian Management in the Philippines and held it for two years. From 1987 to 1990 Colayco took a position of a Chairman at TCI Capital Corporation in San Francisco.
Francisco worked as a Chief Executive Officer at The Professional Group in the Philippines since 1991 and held it for five years. Then in 1996 Francisco became a Chief Executive Officer at Professional Lifeline Company in the Philippines.
Since 1996 he served as a Chairman and president at Network Corporation of Asia in the Philippines and also he worked as a Chairman and Chief Executive Officer at Net Curricula Inc. in the Philippines. The same year Colayco became a Vice chairman of board directors at Bank Dharmala in the Philippines. Nowadays he is the Chairman of the Colayco Foundation for Education, Inc.
Colayco is a member of Philippine Federation at Pre-Need Plan Companies, Inc. (president 1997-1998), Management Association of the Philippines, Mimosa golf and Country, Manila Polo Club, Station Elena Golf and Country Club, Baguio Country Club, Manila Southwoods Golf Country Club, Orchard Golf and Country Club, Rotary.
