Frank Laurent Lambrecht

Lambrecht, Frank Laurent was born on August 30, 1915 in Glamorgan, Wales. Came to the United States, 1959. Son of Franciscus Josephus and Maria Theresa (Vroome) Lambrecht.

Education

Lambrecht graduated as a Bachelor in Chemistry from Technology College of Antwerp, Belgium in 1933. Then he attended the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp and received a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene in 1943. Later he studied at San Franco State College (now University) and became a Master of Arts in 1964. He gained a Certificate in Tropical Public health from the University of Arizona in 1973.

Career

Lambrecht's career began with the position of a research chemist in J. Thienpont Chemicals in Antwerp. He worked there from 1933 till 1941. Then he was a research chemist at the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp for three years. In 1945 Lambrecht joined Congo Red Cross as a health officer and worked there until 1949. Later he will publish his memoirs about it. Right after, he accepted the position of a researcher at the Institute of Scientific Research and Control, where he served until 1959.

In 1960 Lambrecht came to the United States and became an associate researcher and professor at the University of California, San Francisco. He worked there for six years. He was also a scientist for the World Health Organization for ten years (1966-1976).

In 1970 Lambrecht accepted the position of a professor at the University of Arizona. After eight years in Tucson, he moved to California and continued being a professor at the University of Santa Barbara since 1993 until his death in 2002.

Lambrecht was also a contributor of more than one hundred articles to scientific journals.

Achievements

• Several organisms bear Lambrecht's name: Dunnalges lambrechti Lavoipierre, named in 1964; Trypanosoma lambrechti Marinkelle, 1968; and Aedes lambrechti Van Sommeren, 1970.
