In 1861, with brother (late Nelson Dingley, Junior, Medical Corps), established Lewiston Journal, of which is still editors Entire life devoted to editorial work. Was special commissioner under Harrison administration, to make investigations in regard to foreign immigration, visiting ports of embarkation in the British Isles and on the Continent of Europe, and made special report, published by the Department of State, which was made basis of the first legislation, restrictive of immigration, passed by Congress.
Married Lu Mary Greeley, October 21, 1862 (died 1913).
