Brown wrote his first book as warden of a Salvation Army post in London, a post he had held for five years until his dismissal for refusing to submit the book to Salvation Army authorities for “official censorship” before it was published.
In the mid-1960s, Major Brown established an all night club for young people - vagrants, drug addicts, the underprivileged - at his Regent Hall parish in London’s Soho district.
