Joined Social Democratic party, 1898, and established Bates County Critic. Associate editor Appeal to Reason, 1899-1901. Reëstablished Coming Nation, 1902, and consolidated it with Appeal to Reason, 1904, of which is now editor.
Indicted by Federal Court, Kansas District, for mailing offer of reward for Ex-Governor Taylor Kentucky, and sentenced to jail for 6 months by Judge Pollock, July, 1909. Appeal taken to the United States Circuit Court, St. Paul. Judgment of lower court affirmed, November 21, 1911.
President Taft, February 1, 1911, issued unsolicited pardon, commuting jail sentense and reducing fine from $1,500 to $100. Author of a number of pamphlets on socialism. Address: Girard, Kan.
