This introductory-level text advances group work training and practice by offering examples of exemplary training models and curricula that are in compliance with the revised Association for Specialists in Group Work Professional -~ Training Standards. The authors examine the implementation of the ASGW Training Standards within specific counseling programs, and identify commendable curricular approaches 'that are being used to teach the standards. Group work competencies that all counselors need to possess are examined, as is- training in each of the four group work specializations: task groups, psychoeducation groups, group counseling, and group psychotherapy. The authors recommend specific design principles for developing original training experiences, and provide concrete action steps for faculty, students, and practitioners to consider as they attempt to implement the general principles of comprehensive group work.
