  • Achievement of Friedrich Flotow

His first operas, produced in the homes of Parisian noblemen, brought him considerable fame. Although many of his operas were very successful (notably Indra, La Veuve Grapin, and L'Ombre), only Martha (which contains Moore's The Last Rose of Summer) and Stradella remain well known today. His operas, Italian in character, are melodious and effective, rather than dramatically or musically profound.
