When Emperor Godaigo failed to overthrow the Shogunate, Fujifusa Madenokoji followed him into flight to Mount Kasagi and when the troops of Ho jo followed them he fled with the Emperor but were caught. The Emperor was exiled to Oki Island and he was sent away to Hitachi (Ibaraki Prefecture). After the decline of the Kamakura Shogunate, he returned to Kyoto and helped restore the Emperor to his former status. As an adviser to the Emperor, he tried to guide him correctly but as all his advice was not heeded to he retired into obscurity at Iwakura (near Kyoto) and nothing further is known of him.
