Fujinami Kan was born in Aichi Prefecture, the son of Mantoku Fujinami, a physician of the Owari Clan (Aichi Prefecture).

He appointed professor at Kyoto University. He went to Germany in1806. In 1904, ne performed a post-mortem examination of a victim of a Japanese parasitic disease and found a pair of parasitic organisms in the liver and their ova in the uterus of the corpse. Thus he discovered the cause of an endemic disease in the Katayama district in Hiroshima Prefecture.
