Fujiwara no Atsumitsu was born in 1062. He was the son of Akihira.
He served three emperors - Hori Kawa, Toba and Sutoku - and held the posts of Mon jo Hakase (secretary in charge of archives) and Daigaku-no-kami (Chief of the college). He wrote almost all of the important Court documents of his time. His works include Honcho Teiki, or records of the Emperors, and a number of poems contained in Kinyd-wakashu, an anthology.
