藤原通憲
Fujiwara no Michinori was the son of Kanezane. Date of his birth is unknown.
He served three emperors - Toba, Sutoku and Konoe. A man endowed with a retentive memory, resourceful and well-versed in classic literature, he was appointed Shonctgon (vice-Minister) but became a priest with the name of Shinzei. Because his wife was the nurse of Emperor Goshirakawa, he was favored by the emperor and sat in the Inner Council.
After the Hogen Civil War (1156), he took charge of the reconstruction of the Palace and established the Bureau of Archives. Nobuyori Fujwvara, out of jealousy of Michinori’s power, attempted to remove him with the help of Yoshitomo Minamoto and rose in revolt in 1159 (the Heiji Civil War). Michinori, attacked by rebels, committed suicide. A prominent figure in the Heiji Civil War, he was also a great scholar, ranking in learning as high as Yorinaga Fujiwara, another scholar in the late Heian Period. He was in addition a good musician with great skill in playing the biioa (guitar).
