Furukawa Roppa was born in Tokyo in 1903 the sixth son of Terumaro Kato.
He began attending Waseda University, but left before graduating in order to become a film critic and magazine editor.
Furukuwa Roppa joined the theatrical group named “Kingdom of Laughter”,in which he was the star comedian (1933). Became popular for his inimitable skill in imitating other actors’ and singers’ voices. Also is a radio and movie comedian and writes humorous essays. As head of the Roppa Troupe, he is one of the two most outstanding comedians in Japan, the other being Kenichi Enomoto (Enoken for short).
