Fusajiro Kashima was born in Hiroshima. Former family name: Tabe.
Fusajiro Kashima attended Tokyo Higher Commercial School for awhile and then proceeded to America to graduate from Michigan University (1894).
Upon return was adopted by the Kashima family, a wealthy family of Kobe, and joined the Kobe Municipality (1904), which Fusajiro Kashima left almost immediately after being elected to the City Assembly. He was elected Mayor of Kobe (1907) and during his 11 years of tenure showed remarkable administrative talent. Later joined the Kawasaki Concern (1920) to become President of Toa Cement Co. He was President of Kawasaki Shipbuilding Co. (1928) and in between was President of Kobe Chamber of Commerce, director of Murano Technical School.
