At 16, he became a disciple of Tatsunami.
At 26, Futabayama Sadaji rose to the rank of Ozeki (Champion) and came out victorious from three successive tournaments, which feat earned him the title of Yokozuna (Grand Champion). He established the unprecedented record of winning 69 successive bouts in six tournaments. During the war, he operated a wrestling training camp. After the war, he retired from the ring and became a toshiyori, or a senior official of the professional wrestling association and assumed the name Tokitsukaze. He is a director of the organization.
