Ganjiro II Nakamura was born in 1902 in Osaka, Japan.
Ganjiro II made his debut at Minamiza theater of Kyoto under the stage name of Yoshio Hayashi in 1906. In 1909 changed his name to Senjaku and thereafter in 1917 became leader of Kansai Seinen (Youth) Kabuki Troupe. After dissolution of that troupe studied with his father to play beau-part and young Oyama (feminine part); assumed his grandfather's name Kanjaku in 1941 and finally in 1947 became Ganjiro II. Along with Nizaemon is regarded as a central figure of Kansai Kabuki. Successfully mastered versatile roles of Kami- gata-wagoto (beau-part in dramas with Kansai background), Oyama, aged characters and characters in Shinsaku (modern works).
