This biography provides an intimate look at this very private celebrity, who commands salaries in the millions for his work yet leads a nomadic life with no fixed home. A man of many masks, Day-Lewis is a shy, sensitive Garbo, a dark-souled Byronic outsider, a brooding, tortured Hamlet whose roles have alternately provided escape and imprisonment.

(Brazil won the 1970 World Cup with an exhibition of the m...)
Brazil won the 1970 World Cup with an exhibition of the most fluid, exhilarating football ever witnessed. Their young prodigy Jairzhino scored in every match. Tostao, Rivelino, Clodoaldo, and Gerson emerged as masters of what became known as "samba football" slow, elegant moves punctuated by cobra-sharp strikes that often led to breathtaking goals. In The Beautiful Team, Garry Jenkins journeys to Brazil to track down the surviving members of that unforgettable eleven and talk to them about their memories of the World Cup.

The story of the West is in many ways the story of the quest for water. Faced with widespread droughts in the late nineteenth century, serious-minded men became convinced that artificial rain would be the next great scientific breakthrough.

In An Otter on the Aga, Rex Harper brings to life the story of the incredible animal sanctuary that he and his family spent over forty years building. From small beginnings, the Harpers' haven became a magnet for an extraordinary array of animal waifs and strays and was designated the official RSPCA centre for Cornwall in the late 1970s, taking in more than 50,000 abused and abandoned creatures by the time Rex and his wife retired. In this tale he introduces us to the colourful cast of characters that have become his family - Patti the unlikely guard dog poodle, Odin the Machiavellian raven and One Eye the seemingly indestructible cat. He describes, too, the dark side of his work as an RSPCA warden, chronicling some of the inhuman cruelty he witnessed during his years at the forefront of animal welfare in Cornwall.
