In 1982 Gary Hendrix, a prominent expert in natural language processing and artificial intelligence, founded Symantec Corporation, an international corporation which sells computer software (information management and antivirus software).
Education
Hendrix's decision to study in the artificial intelligence field was greatly influenced by Advanced Research Projects Agency when in 1970 it announced a series of funding for six projects in natural language understanding.
During his studies at the University of Texas, Gary Hendrix conducted researches on robotics. That awoke SRI International representatives' interest and led to an invitation for Hendrix to work at SRI which he accepted.
Career
In 1982 Gary Hendrix founded Symantec Corporation. He brought together a group of Stanford Universiry researchers in the field of natural language processing to form the company. The company was originally focused on artificial intelligence-related projects.
The enterprise's initial funding was a national Science Foundation grant. When the grant ran out, Hendrix received financing from venture capital firms.
Gary Hendrix left the company in 1991.
